Dan Burns is an attorney who has been mediating full time since 1995. He also served as the Town Justice in Niskayuna New York and was formerly a Family Law instructor at the Schenectady County Community College. He conducts divorce mediation training throughout New York and is a frequent guest speaker on topics related to divorce mediation. Dan was responsible for establishing the legal precedent in New York that allows attorney mediators to prepare legal documents such as separation agreements and divorce papers on behalf of mediating couples. He has served on the Board of Directors and as President of the New York State Council on Divorce Mediation and received his mediation training at the Center for Mediation in Law in New York City and the Mediation Center, Inc. of Eugene Oregon. |
Melissa Burns was trained in mediation under the supervision of the New York State Unified Court System, and has completed several extensive mediation training programs, including Family Mediation, Agreement Writing, Domestic Violence, Ethics, and Divorce Mediation. She has mediated hundreds of cases involving divorce, legal separation, child support, custody, parenting plans, and modification of previous agreements.
Melissa is a former Executive Director and consultant for the New York State Council on Divorce Mediation, and she is a volunteer for the local non-profit, Mediation Matters. Melissa holds a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst (CDFA) certification and is a New York State Notary Public. She is a graduate of SUNY Delhi with a degree in Business and Technology Management. |
